Project Reflection:What is the model united nations: Model United Nations (MUN) is a mock trial for a United Nations (UN) meeting. It is a method used to teach students about international relations, and gain understanding more about international issues. The most common students that participate in MUN are high school and college students. They attend the meeting by becoming a delegate of a country and speak around the topic as their assigned country. During this process, resolutions, amendments, allies, and chairs are formed. Through those formations parliamentary procedure is learned as well and used throughout the MUN. The MUN that Ally’s class participated in was subjected to the issue of climate change. Everyone was assigned to a country and became a delegate for that country and wrote resolutions and policy papers. At the end of all the writing, we attended the MUN conference at fort lewis college.
How did you strengthen (or not strengthen) your skills during this project? How did you stretch yourself?: I strengthen my social, and collaborative skills during this project. Not so on the MUN portion but for the exhibition and the small group work that went into the exhibition had been the contribution for my growth. Working with three people I wouldn't normally work with was a fun and good experience. Having each person in a group and a different level and different strength brought the opportunity to collaborate with more effort. We all had a passion for what we created which was a diorama we all were very proud of in the end. How did this project change your thinking about global issues? What enduring understandings about the world will you take away, and why? : My perspective on global issues did not change, throughout this project the perspective that changed was how global issues are solved. During the exhibition I saw so much on how people can do this and that, solve that, and create this. No one did anything but tell what was already spoken and share that information in a new way. Renewable energy sources were created on a small scale. Which really interested me and had me asking, if this is so good and so cheap and way better than what was being used, why didn't we use it in the first place. Why did we have to start using the most harmful first? |
