reduce, reuse, REcycle book. |
For my short book I decided to do a little research in what your recyclables turn into and what their use is after they are tossed into the blue bin. I tried to focus my materials on the city of Durango and so I researched a variety of accepted recyclable items. A misconception for people that do not focus a lot on recyclables and their capability, and that the materials do not just become new versions of the product. The materials that are presented in the book; newspapers, magazines, paper, cardboard, mixed paper, steel cans, aluminum cans, foil, pie plates, glass bottles, jars, plastics #1- #7, are all recycled down into very useful and reasonable new produces.
Newspaper, magazines and paper are recycled into some extravagant materials such as as new counter tops, kitty litter, and back through the cycle to newspaper, cardboard, berry boxes and egg cartons. The cardboard and mixed paper are broken down into some daily items such as paper bags, paper towel rolls, and the important protective backing on your houses roof shingles. Steel cans are very resourceful with turning into bike parts, car parts and house appliances. Aluminum cans, foil and pie plates, are more focused on becomes new versions of themselves without causes more waist. Glass bottles and jars are fairly simple with transforming back into new bottles and new jars but also conclude into fiberglass as well. Plastics one through seven have a large range of items they can be renewed in, such as cozy insulation for sleeping bags and winter jackets, frisbees, stadium seats, backpacks and new plastic bottles and containers. |
Throughout this project I learned a lot and was able to present what I learned. I learned that a lot of people that participate in recycling do not have a good grasp of what they are contributing to. In the discussions I had I found that there was a unaware section of what your recyclables turn into for most community people. The most shocking thing I learned throughout this project is that steel cans can form into bike parts, car parts, and house appliances. Along with the fact that it is easier to create new glass bottles and jars from recycled glass than new fresh glass. Being able to learn more about recyclables and coming from a not so efficient recycling household it has inspired me and educated me into becoming more aware of what I throw away and the possibilities that end up in the trash.
For this project I think I deserve a possible B- because I focused on a main question on how this can help our community and the environment. I also had an excellent realization of my capability of time management due to the short time given for this particular project. During the building process of the book I had a few setbacks due to I did not know how I would create it but I ended up producing an idea and made it manageable to accomplish. At the exhibition I did find myself without a table or presentable station. I did however set up with my book at a makeshift area which I was able to draw in a fair amount of guests that I was able to have great conversation as well as help them learn, and also learn from them. Something I would like to improve on would be my time of arrival to exhibition, and the refinement that could have gone into my book. Overall I am very pleased with myself coming away from this project and I hope to continue to grow in future projects to come. |
