Socialization and Mask Project:
In this project we learned about socialization and how it affects the world around us. Socialization is how we found our values, norms, and our way of habit. It is how how you distinguish what culture you fit in. Socialization is made up of many categories each of us are in. The main categories are gender, race, ability, age, sexual orientation, religion, and economic class. This all has been taught alongside the cycle of socialization.
1. Explain how you grew as a writer in this project. Be specific, go back through your essay to find evidence.
In this project I would say that I didn’t find much growth. Looking back in my essay I find a lot of errors and areas of improvement. During this prompt I didn’t try my hardest. The essay “Blind With Identity” could have been a project worth sharing. Looking back on the essay I see many areas of improvement. Like for instance the two middle paragraphs, there structure was weak and they weren’t on topic. My vocabulary used throughout the essay could have been more accurate.
2. What are your largest takeaways from this project and how have they transformed the way you see the world? This could be from any part of the project: the content, the essay and mask, the design thinking process, or the exhibition prep.
My largest takeaways from this project would be the way I view people. During the note taking and video watching I began to realize what I never really thought about the bigger picture. Seeing what people look like doesn’t always have to be where we put the labels. Throughout this unit I have came to a realization of ,if we take away the labels and see what we truly are it would solve a lot of issues this world has.
3. What were your goals as a group worker and what challenged/success did you have reaching your goals? Make sure to include an example or story that highlight your response.
My goals as a group worker were challenged but which then led to success. In the beginning of this project I was a bit stressed and overwhelmed by everything. The situation that I was put in doesn’t happen often. I overcame a lot of my challenges by my goals. When a group project is given I don’t entirely put my full effort in. My goal was to put my effort, cooperate and learn from this project. That ended up being semi successful. I could have done better in some areas but I have seen a big area of growth.
4. Describe what you did as a group member and how it contributed to the success of our exhibition. Include in your answer how you would grade your effort and why.
In my group I had the job of constructing the results room, along with other members from our group. This led to my group being successful by completing the room faster and it was done well. I put a lot of my effort in with this project and completing the goals that I had set. In this project I wouldn’t say I should receive the greatest grade but I would allow myself to receive a good grade. The reason for that is I could have done a much better job, shared more of my ideas and I could've work better with the group in the beginning of the assignment.
